Under our current healthcare system, one serious accident or illness can be financially ruinous for individuals or families, even for people who have health insurance. Many people find health insurance coverage is inadequate or so high priced they must go without it. Because the Trump administration has drastically cut funding for the Affordable Care Act’s outreach, enrollment and assistance programs, many people are still unaware that there are subsidies available to help them buy high-quality health insurance.
None of this should be the case. Basic healthcare is a human right. Medical care should be affordable and accessible to everyone regardless of their age, income level, location or employment status. Health insurance companies should not be allowed to exclude some people or charge higher rates for pre-existing conditions. Health insurance policies should continue to be required to cover 100% of the cost of basic preventive care services, like annual exams, vaccinations and maternity care.
Reproductive information, treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and a full range of family planning services should also be readily accessible at very low or no cost to both males and females.
All Colorado residents deserve access to high quality healthcare at the lowest possible price. Medical coverage for all Colorado citizens is a high priority.
